Nurturing nature, our commitment to biodiversity
Here at BerryWorld, we understand that the health of our planet and the quality of our berries are deeply intertwined. That's why we're committed to protecting and nurturing biodiversity, the variety of life that sustains healthy ecosystems.
Biodiversity isn't just about the beauty of diverse plants and animals; it's essential for the health of our planet and our food production. Pollinators like bees play a crucial role in the production of our berries, ensuring a bountiful harvest. A rich ecosystem also helps to control pests and diseases naturally, reducing the need for harmful chemicals.
PROTECTING OUR POLLINATORS
Bees are the unsung heroes of berry production. Their tireless pollination efforts bring us the sweet, juicy berries we love. But bees do so much more than pollinate our crops; they contribute to the health of entire ecosystems, supporting a wide variety of plant and animal life.
We recognise the challenges facing bee populations, from habitat loss to climate change. That's why we're taking action to protect and support these vital pollinators. We work closely with our growers to implement sustainable farming practices that promote bee health, such as:
- Integrated pest management through minimising the use of pesticides that can harm bees.
- Planting for pollinators by creating pollinator-friendly habitats with trees, hedges, and wildflowers.
- Collaborating with beekeepers to open our farms to beehives and supporting bee conservation organisations.
- Investing in research sponsoring PhD students to research bee sustainability and health in berry crops.
We're proud to partner with growers who share our passion for sustainability. Here are a few examples of their initiatives:
- Dearnsdale Fruit planted 4 hectares of wildflower mix on their farm and works closely with consultants for best practices in flora and fauna conservation.
- The Summer Berry Company demonstrates their strong commitment to biodiversity by planting trees and hedges, incorporating wildflowers into their fruit fields, and hosting beehives.
- Withers Farm & Tasker Partnership are actively involved in a new innovate project with on farm insect monitoring devices to understand pollinator levels in real time which helps manage an optimal pollination environment.
We believe that sustainability is not just a buzzword but a way of life. By working together, we can create a thriving, sustainalicious world for generations to come.
