JOb Purpose
To oversee, support and promote the ethics and sustainability functions within the group, organising and supporting programs to manage and mitigate risks whilst maintaining and developing our high ethical and sustainability standards. To provide adhoc technical and compliance support as and when requiredKey Accountabilities
The role will require compliance administration, monitoring and the management of ethical and environmental data, systems and projects in order to meet relevant stakeholder requirements and identified key risks. Travel within the UK and overseas is required. There may also be requirements to support the Technical team in supplier auditing and compliance related tasks.
These accountabilities include…
Sedex
- Ensure supplier SAQ reviewed every six months.
- Liaise with suppliers to maintain memberships.
- Establish correct links with stakeholders.
- Maintain risk assessments to identify risk rating issues.
- Work with suppliers to resolve issues identified in SAQ and risk ratings in order to reduce risk level.
- Manage relationship with SEDEX team and resolve system issues.
Ethical Audits and Projects
- Manage BerryWorld ethics and sustainability risk assessment
- Review risk outcomes and work with the team to establish mitigation plans.
- Communicate any audit requirements to suppliers.
- Organise and conduct audits to meet customer and BerryWorld requirements.
- Travel required to conduct internal ethical audits both in the UK and overseas.
- Ensure SMETA audits are uploaded to SEDEX in a timely manner.
- Track audit non-conformances and work with suppliers to ensure non-conformances are closed off in agreed timescales.
- Support suppliers to develop time bound action plans.
- Ensure customer ethical trackers are maintained and communicated in agreed timescales.
- Maintain and review KPI reports for stakeholders.
- Support and oversea the implementation of ethical projects
Environmental
- Collate data on environmental performance for suppliers from various sources to cover areas such as water, energy and biodiversity criteria.
- Support with the collation of carbon data for BerryWorld UK and liaise with relevant stakeholders.
- Manage internal and external communication for environmental aspects.
- Organise audits to meet customer and BerryWorld requirements of frequency and auditor.
- Communicate any audit requirements to suppliers i.e LEAF, SPRING.
- Travel required to conduct sustainability audits/visits both in the UK and overseas.
- Track audit non-conformances and work with suppliers to ensure non-conformances are closed off in agreed timescales.
- Work with colleagues and growers to develop sustainability policies and procedures.
- Support the implementation of sustainability projects
- Assist suppliers in developing and uploading non-conformance action plans.
- Liaise with audit companies.
- Apply BerryWorld risk rating to growers for future audit/development plans.
- Maintain and review KPI reports for stakeholders.
Ad Hoc
- Check retailer databases/libraries for new ethical and sustainability guidance documents.
- Undertake training on relevant sustainability / ethical areas and auditing to raise awareness and knowledge.
- Organise internal and external training programmes.
- Work closely with the team on any ethical or environmental allegations or media alerts.
- Work with the team overseeing the Berryworld helpline.
- Technical and / or customer audits i.e M&S Select Farm
- Technical compliance requirements for supplier approval
Qualifications
- High standard of written and spoken English.
- Experience of working with databases such as Power BI, including report generation and analysis
- Knowledge of ethics and sustainability areas
Specific Knowledge & Experience
Relevant knowledge and experience would include
- SEDEX
- ETI Base Code
- LEAF
- Relevant legal frameworks such as Modern Slavery Act 2015
- Computer Literate
Specific Skills
- Demonstration of strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with internal and external personnel
- Able to work within a team but can you use own initiative and work independently
- Ability to plan and prioritise workload
- Ability to work under pressure with a high attention to detail.
- Proven Time management skills: Accustomed to working with and meeting time critical deadlines
- IT Skills – Good working knowledge of Word, Excel and Power Point software applications and Microsoft Outlook.
