As we celebrate our 30th birthday here at BerryWorld, we’re taking a moment to reflect on one of the partnerships we’re most proud of — our ongoing collaboration with FareShare, the UK’s leading food redistribution charity.

Since 2020, we’ve been working together to ensure that surplus berries from our UK growers don’t go to waste but instead go to people and communities who need them most.

This year feels especially meaningful, as FareShare is also marking its 30th year of supporting communities. Our shared milestone reminds us of how far we’ve come together. This past summer was a record-breaking one, with BerryWorld’s delicious fresh strawberries helping to support the highest-ever volumes of fresh produce received by the FareShare network during a summer season. Knowing that our berries played a part in that achievement is incredibly rewarding.

For those who may not be familiar, FareShare works with the food industry to rescue good-to-eat surplus food and redistribute it to over 8,000 charities and community groups across the UK. From Scotland to Cornwall, this food makes its way to a wide range of people — from children at after-school clubs to elderly people attending community lunches and individuals experiencing homelessness. The fresh fruit we provide becomes part of hot meals at shelters, snacks for kids, and even meals at holiday clubs for children and their families. It’s heartening to know that our berries are doing more than just feeding people; they’re bringing communities together.

At BerryWorld, we’re passionate about doing business the right way. As a leading supplier of fresh berries with a growing global footprint, sustainability and ethical practices are at the heart of everything we do. That’s why supporting FareShare feels like such a natural fit for us. Over the last four years, our UK growers have provided FareShare with perfectly delicious "out of spec" berries — fruit that may not meet cosmetic standards for supermarket shelves but is every bit as tasty and nutritious. So far, these contributions have helped provide the equivalent of 1.6 million meals to people across the UK. It’s a powerful reminder of the impact we can have when we work together.

Simon Millard, Director of Food at FareShare said: “We are enormously grateful to the team at BerryWorld UK and all their growers for their continued support for FareShare. Since 2020, BerryWorld UK has been providing delicious, nutritious fresh produce to help support our network of charities across the UK, including after school and breakfast clubs, hospices, domestic abuse refuges and homelessness shelters. By providing FareShare with surplus food, BerryWorld UK makes a huge difference to ensuring that good food goes to people in need, not waste. Their support helps these charities turn surplus food into meals, addressing the environmental issue of food waste at the same time as ensuring people in need have access to healthy diets. Thanks for helping FareShare make the food go further.”

Emma Henry, Senior Responsible Sourcing Manager at BerryWorld UK said: “Everyone should be able to access nutritious healthy fresh produce, so we are incredibly proud and pleased to be able to support FareShare and celebrate together on this momentous occasion.”
