Our collaboration with Cranfield University has secured funding through Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), for the development of a prototype rainwater harvesting decision support tool to reduce water and climate-related risks in UK agriculture and horticulture
As part of our ongoing sustainability vision we set out to rethink our approach to water use and established a partnership with Cranfield University who are widely known for their expertise in understanding sustainable water use.
We embarked on a project to support the development of a rainwater harvesting tool for the benefit of our berry growers. The initial results were met with resounding success, receiving praise from our growers.
This year to build on this sustainability project, we’re proud to announce our collaboration with Cranfield University, Tasker Partnership Ltd, Emery Soft Fruits Ltd, New Leaf Irrigation Services and UK Irrigation Association Ltd. Together we applied for funding through the prestigious Innovate UK program and are thrilled to announce that our application has been approved, marking a significant milestone in our water sustainability journey.
"Together we aim to develop a prototype web-based tool that will support farm businesses and those engaged in the agricultural and horticultural sectors to better understand the hydrological suitability, technical feasibility, and economic viability for installing rainwater harvesting systems and associated storage to reduce on-farm water and climate risks to production." reports Emma Henry our Senior Responsible Sourcing Manager here at BerryWorld.
We look forward to sharing more about this project and how this sustainable water use project might benefit those in the wider agriculture and horticultural industry.
